The Theory of the 5 Dimensions of Self: David L. Asselstine, PSW, RoP, LC, M.NLP, FRC

WHAT are the Five (5) Dimensions of Self?

SO WHY SPECIFICALLY THESE THINGS??

Resiliency, is the quality of becoming more adaptive to challenging and adverse conditions.

According to "Review of Situational Awareness and Safety:"Situational Awareness and Safety"" at

Stanton, N. A.; Chambers, P. R. G. & Piggott, J. (2001) Situational awareness and safety. Safety Science 39 189-204.

Situational Awareness is a quality of perception that enables effective decision making because the more aware you are situationally, the more you are prepared to deal with a diverse range of situations. Situational Awareness.

Since We require feedback from our environment and this is dependent upon our ability to observe, detect, and when needed implement the elements of situational awareness in order to optimize the conditions of our relationships within that/those environments we need to have acquired a significant amount of data about those experiences and sometimes be able to apply that knowledge fairly quickly. Whether the solution can wait or must be acted upon; is also somewhat decided by a person's ability to be situationally-aware of the possible ramifications of change within their environment considering as wide a variety as possible of potential variables so that there is a higher chance of acquiring new strategies to carry into future situations that will offer both adaptive flexibility and the solution the situation it was intended for initially.  This learning memory is what eliminates bias from entering the equation when presented with unique variations of a situation that often require a non-linear form of thinking. The flexibility is in the ability to see similarities between variables of different situations. Thus, Situational Awareness is the process by which we learn about the way we process environmental cues in response to certain situations. This can also be applied to the way we see trauma, the way we communicate with others, the way we function in general. This bleeds into what I have decided to call Emotional Situational Awareness or Good Ol' Empathy for short.

If you'd like a copy of my research notes let me know brotheralchemyst@gmail.com and I will be sure to send you one when they are fully compiled.

In our Next Post we'll talk a bit more about Mindfulness, a technique of meditation that can enable your "sense" of Situational Awareness.

  1. Excellent work brother David! I have to say from personal experience that my own situational awareness is very in tune. It has saved my back side more times than I can count.
